This project achieved the highest level (Emerald) of Build Green NM Certification; it is effectively a NET-ZERO home (it produces more energy that it consumes). The house is 100% electric and has no propane, natural gas, or other fossil fuel source of energy.
All heating, cooling and domestic hot water is supplied by a ground source heat pump Geothermal System. A grid tied, 9.9 Kw solar photovoltaic array supplies all electricity. Rooftop rainwater is directed to underground cisterns (totaling 5,000 gallons) and used for landscape irrigation. Barn roof water is directed to existing vegetation.
This ≈4,000 square foot home has 3 bedrooms, 2 ½ baths, a home office, extra large garage with workshop space and a room for the owner’s aquariums. In addition to raising fish, they have horses; a three stall barn also includes a tack room, hay storage area and additional garage space for a trailer and tractor.
